A split second is all it takes for an accident to happen. 'Bai-Po,' a Shih Tzu, was rushed to our Eye Clinic after being accidentally bitten in the left eye by a housemate. Our ophthalmologists diagnosed a perforated cornea with severe inflammation. To protect the eye and allow it to heal, the medical team performed a temporary tarsorrhaphy (suturing the eye shut) and admitted her for intensive care, including anti-inflammatories, pain management, and antibiotics to prevent vision-threatening infections.
A perforated cornea is a medical emergency that can be caused by blunt force, sharp objects, animal attacks, or severe infections. Seek immediate veterinary help if you notice
Bai-Po has made a remarkable recovery! Her eyes are now open, and she has returned home. While she still requires ongoing eye drops, she is back to her happy self. Let’s send some love and encouragement to Bai-Po for a full and speedy recovery!
