The Mystery of the Missing Testicle Understanding Cryptorchidism in Cats
A hidden condition that requires expert eyes! 'Cryptorchidism' is a developmental defect where one or both testicles fail to descend into the scrotum. While common in dogs (where it typically occurs on the right side), it is significantly rarer in cats, occurring equally on either side.
The Dual Risk
Genetic Transmission The descended testicle can still produce sperm, meaning this hereditary defect can be passed down to future generations.
Health Hazard The undescended testicle, trapped inside the body, cannot produce sperm but faces a high risk of developing into a tumor or testicular cancer due to internal body heat.
In this rare feline case, our veterinary team used advanced ultrasound to locate the missing testicle. We successfully identified it lodged in the right inguinal (groin) area. Our surgeons then performed a specialized neutering procedure to remove both testicles. The surgery was a success, and we are happy to report that our patient is now fully recovered and back to his playful self!
