CT-SCAN Reveals a Needle in Dog’s Abdomen Emergency Surgery Required

A dog came in for a routine health check before undergoing a planned skin tumor removal. However, during the X-ray exam 🔍, the vet discovered a strange metallic object resembling a needle inside the abdominal cavity — despite the dog showing no symptoms, and the owner having no idea how it got there. Ultrasound imaging couldn’t pinpoint the exact location, so our veterinary team recommended a CT-SCAN to assess the object’s position and whether it posed a risk to vital organs.

• Fortunately, the CT results showed that the needle was lodged in the abdominal fat layer, not piercing any major organs. The surgery team performed a minimally invasive procedure with just a small incision and used real-time X-ray (Fluoroscopy) to accurately locate and safely remove the foreign object.

While under anesthesia, the team also proceeded with the planned skin tumor removal. The surgery went smoothly, and the dog recovered quickly — going home the same day. This case is a reminder of how regular check-ups and advanced diagnostic tools can catch unexpected issues early.
