Every second counts in an ocular emergency. Meet 'Gumber,' who was rushed to our hospital after an accident caused his eye to protrude from the socket—a critical condition known as Proptosis. This condition is common in brachycephalic (short-nosed) breeds like Shih Tzus, Pugs, and Chihuahuas. Their shallow eye sockets make their eyes naturally more prominent and vulnerable. Severe impact or even extreme excitement can cause the eye to displace forward.
Our veterinarians assess the severity of each case. In minor instances, the eye can be gently manually repositioned. However, for Gumber, the trauma was severe, requiring emergency surgery to safely restore the eye to its proper place. The surgery was a complete success! During his follow-up with Dr. Pueng, we are thrilled to report that Gumber’s vision remains intact. He can see clearly once again!
