Severe Pancreatitis in Dogs: A Life-Threatening Condition You Shouldn’t Ignore

Loleo, a beloved pup, showed unusual symptoms—lethargy, loss of appetite, abdominal pain, and even difficulty climbing stairs. When brought to the hospital, our veterinary team found several concerning signs:

  • Low red blood cell count
  • Extremely high pancreatic enzyme levels
  • Severe internal inflammation and noticeable body swelling

To assess the situation thoroughly, we performed an abdominal ultrasound to evaluate the level of inflammation and check for any hidden internal issues. Loleo needed to stay at the hospital for over 2 weeks under close observation and intensive care.Thankfully, with prompt treatment, Loleo’s condition improved, and he is now continuing recovery at home.

Pancreatitis in dogs is a serious and potentially fatal condition.

If left untreated, it can lead to severe dehydration, irregular heartbeat, acute kidney failure, and even shock—all of which can be life-threatening.If your dog shows any unusual signs or changes in behavior, don’t delay. Early diagnosis and veterinary care could save their life.
