Essential Post-Surgery Care How to Ensure Your Pet Heals Safely

  1. Prevent your pet from licking the wound at all costs. Animal saliva contains bacteria that can lead to serious infections.
  2. Strictly avoid running, jumping, or strenuous exercise. Excessive movement can cause the incision to open (dehiscence) or significantly delay the healing process.
  3. Keep a close watch on the surgical site. If you notice any abnormalities—such as pus, excessive redness, swelling, or active bleeding—contact your veterinarian immediately.
  4. Consistency is key. Ensure you bring your pet for scheduled wound cleaning and check-ups as advised by the doctor.
  5. Do not forget to bring your pet back for suture removal, typically 7–10 days after the procedure.

We understand that providing the intensive care required after a major surgery can be challenging with a busy schedule. At Thonglor Pet Hospital, our team of veterinarians and specialized nurses are ready to provide 24/7 professional care, just as we did for 'BM.' BM was entrusted to our medical boarding for continuous care following his surgery. His recovery plan required meticulous attention, including daily wound dressing and diaper changes every 3–4 hours to maintain hygiene and prevent infection. After nearly 1.5 months of dedicated nursing care post-suture removal, the results are truly rewarding! BM’s surgical wound has completely healed, his urine has returned to a healthy yellow color with no traces of blood, and he no longer suffers from painful straining. He is now healthy, happy, and officially ready to head back home!
