Essential Care for Flat-Faced Breeds: Mellow’s Spay Consultation and Soft Palate Surgery

Meet 'Mellow,' who recently visited Thonglor Pet Hospital (Ramintra Branch) for a spaying consultation. Since Mellow is a brachycephalic (flat-faced) breed, our veterinarians recommended a concurrent Soft Palate Resection. This procedure is a critical intervention for short-nosed breeds, including French Bulldogs, English Bulldogs, and Pugs. Correcting an elongated soft palate while the pet is already under anesthesia for neutering significantly improves their long-term breathing quality and, most importantly, ensures a much safer recovery from the anesthetic process.
For brachycephalic (flat-faced) breeds, symptoms like noisy breathing or heavy snoring often indicate an Elongated Soft Palate. This is a critical safety concern during any procedure involving general anesthesia. If the excess palate tissue is not addressed, it may swell during recovery and obstruct the airway, leading to dangerous complications.

To ensure the highest safety and better long-term health, 'Mellow' underwent her spaying procedure today alongside a concurrent Soft Palate Resection. With the obstructive tissue removed, Mellow can look forward to much smoother, easier breathing from now on.
