Don’t Panic! Cherry Eye in Cats is Easily Treatable

Why Does Cherry Eye Occur?

  • Genetics and Breed Predisposition Certain breeds, such as Persians and Scottish Folds, are naturally at a higher risk. Their unique facial structures and genetic makeup make them more susceptible to this condition.
  • Weakened Supporting Tissue The tear gland is normally held in place by specialized connective tissues and muscles. When these supports become weak or fail, the gland can easily slip out of position (prolapse), leading to the visible ’cherry’ appearance.

In this case, our veterinary team performed a corrective surgical procedure to reposition the prolapsed gland. We are happy to report that the surgery was a complete success!

Now, Snow is back to living her best life. She no longer suffers from the irritation or inflammation that previously clouded her vision. With her eyes back to their healthy, bright state, her parents can finally rest easy without any more worries. Snow’s journey is a wonderful reminder that with the right care, Cherry Eye is a hurdle that can be easily overcome.
