Unbelievable! Sudden Hind Limb Paralysis in Cats Due to ’Heart Disease’

Many pet parents might not know that "heart disease" is the primary cause of a severe condition in cats called "thromboembolism" (blood clot). This often occurs suddenly, causing severe pain, stiff hind limbs, paralysis in one or both legs, and can even lead to shock.

’Nong Heng Heng’ (Ms. Lucky) was presented with symptoms of panting, open-mouth breathing, and an inability to bear weight on her right hind leg. The vet suspected Aortic Thromboembolism (ATE). Nong Heng Heng couldn’t bear weight on both hind legs, her paw pads were cold, and blood pressure in her paws was very low 💥 – an emergency condition where, if not treated promptly, the cat might never walk again. After a detailed examination, it was found that she also had heart disease, which acted as a trigger for the blood clot, leading to her hind legs becoming dysfunctional.

In this case, the vet admitted Nong Heng Heng and continuously administered clot-dissolving injections, along with managing her heart disease. Her condition gradually improved, she started walking again, and continues to have regular follow-ups with the vet.
