ขนหางหาย...สาเหตุจากโรคผิวหนัง หรือพฤติกรรมที่เปลี่ยนไป?

น้องชีต้า แมวหนุ่มหล่อตัวลายชุดทักซิโด้สุดเท่ เริ่มมีพฤติกรรมกัดแทะบริเวณหาง และเล็มขนหางของตัวเองออกจนเกือบหมดคุณแม่เลยคิดว่า น้องอาจจะเป็นโรคผิวหนังบางอย่าง เลยรีบพาน้องมาตรวจกับคุณหมอ ศูนย์โรคผิวหนังและภูมิแพ้ คุณหมอได้ทำการตรวจตามกระบวนการแยกแยะการติดเชื้อรวมทั้งภูมิแพ้อย่างละเอียด แต่ไม่พบการติดเชื้อใดๆ เลย จากการสอบถามประวัติเพิ่มเติมคุณแม่แจ้งว่า หลังเหตุการณ์แผ่นดินไหว ได้พาน้องชีต้าย้ายจากคอนโดมาอยู่ที่บ้าน เริ่มห่างกันกับเจ้าของมากขึ้น (ปกติคุณแม่จะอยู่ติดกันกับชีต้าตลอด) ผ่านมา 3 สัปดาห์ สังเกตเห็นน้องเริ่มกัดแทะหางตัวเองบ้าง แต่ไม่ทราบว่าน้องเริ่มเครียด

คุณหมอสันนิษฐานว่า สาเหตุของขนหางที่หายไปนั้นเกิดจาก "ความเครียดสะสม" จากหลายปัจจัย

1. เหตุการณ์แผ่นดินไหวที่น่ากลัว
2. การย้ายที่อยู่อาศัยใหม่
3. การห่างจากเจ้าของ

แผนการรักษา:

คุณหมอให้การรักษาด้วย ยาปรับพฤติกรรม ที่ช่วยลดความเครียด และคลายความกังวลให้น้องชีต้า พร้อมทั้งฝากคุณแม่ช่วยดูแล และสังเกตอาการของน้องอย่างสม่ำเสมอและใกล้ชิด

ผลการรักษา:

หลังจากนั้น 1 เดือน อาการของน้องชีต้ากลับมาเป็นปกติแล้ว กลับมาร่าเริง มีความสุขมากขึ้น ขนบริเวณหางขึ้นเต็มแล้วด้วย

Tail Hair Loss...Is it a skin disease or behavioral change?

Cheetah, a handsome tuxedo cat, started biting and over-grooming his tail area until the hair was almost completely gone. His owner initially thought it might be a skin condition, so she brought him to see our veterinarian at the Dermatology and Allergy Center. The veterinarian performed a thorough diagnostic process to rule out infections and allergies, but no infections were found. Upon further history taking, the owner mentioned that after the earthquake incident, she had moved Cheetah from a condo to a house and had been spending less time with him (normally, the owner and Cheetah were inseparable). Over the past 3 weeks, she noticed him biting his tail occasionally but didn’t realize he was becoming stressed.

The veterinarian concluded that the cause of tail hair loss was "accumulated stress" from multiple factors:

1. The frightening earthquake event
2. Moving to a new residence
3. Separation from his owner

Treatment Plan:

The veterinarian treated Cheetah with behavioral medication to reduce stress and anxiety, and asked the owner to closely monitor and care for him regularly.

Treatment Results:

After 1 month, Cheetah’s condition returned to normal! He became more cheerful and happier, and his tail hair fully grew back.
